A Letter from crossroads campus ministry

Dear Bethlehem Lutheran Church,

We need your help now more than ever.

We don’t say this lightly: due to unexpected circumstances, our ministry is currently in financial trouble. The support we give to students and community members in times of crisis, the spiritual guidance we offer, the community we have built, Lunch-for-a-Buck, and our beloved Campus Cupboard is at risk.

Every day, we see the difference this ministry makes. Students come to a place they know and love. Jesus reminds us in Luke 11 to feed the hungry, and this is what we strive to do every day. Through Campus Cupboard and Lunch-for-a-Buck, we do what Jesus taught us. We do the work of the Gospel.  Even during the summer, we remain a vibrant place for fellowship, love, and grace.

We have a plan in place to sustain our ministry long-term. But we cannot do our work throughout the summer without your help. We need to raise $30,000 by August 1st to sustain the ministry through the summer.

We know this is an ambitious goal. But we also know that God is faithful. Your gifts, whether it’s $5 or $1,000, will help us keep showing up for students who desperately need our help. We know you care about the next generation of leaders, thinkers and faithful witnesses. Now is the time to act. Help us keep this vital ministry alive.

BLC Weekly, June 30

Hello Bethlehem,

We had an awesome week of Service & Sun! 20 kids and adults from Bethlehem, First Presbyterian, Centenary and Christ the King teamed up for service projects in the community and fun in the sun. They visited Global Health Ministries, Connections, CADA House, and MY Place for service projects, and made time for mini golf, swimming at Spring Lake, Mom & Pop’s ice cream and an afternoon at the movies. Thank you to the chaperones who kept our youth safe during the week; it was our biggest group yet and such a joy to make an impact in the community!

If you feel moved to give something they ask that in lieu of gifts, please donate instead to Metavivor (research for metastatic cancer) or to the church. Come and join the celebration!

Thank you

Crossroads Campus Ministry offers its deepest appreciation and thanks to Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the volunteers who prepared, delivered, and served delicious hot meals to hungry college students through our Lunch-for-a-Buck program during the 2024-2025 school year. We extend a special thank you to faithful servants, Jan Blaisdell, Kathy Piehl, Sue Larsen, Susan Brown, Zoe Blaisdell, Alex Blaisdell, DeAnn Bennett, Gordy Larson, Gary Petersen, Dennis Sandersfeld, Jason Bruns, Jack Halvorson, Bob Ihrig, Roger Haug and Pastor Jay Dahlvang for taking time out of their busy schedules to ensure that no student left Crossroads hungry. Lunch-for-a-Buck proved to be very popular this year. Your congregation was responsible for serving on seven Tuesdays throughout the year. Your volunteers fed 294 individuals and collected $327.97 in donations that went right back into purchasing the salads, beverages and table supplies for subsequent lunches.

Crossroads Campus Ministry was privileged to host 30 lunches throughout the school year, and due to the generosity of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and other area congregations, a total of 1,183 people were fed and $1,172.92 in donations was collected to ensure that we can keep feeding students into the future. We look forward to continuing Lunch-for-a-Buck after Fall Term begins in August and hope that Bethlehem will partner with us again to feed Minnesota State-Mankato students. God bless you for your faithfulness and support of this important and impactful ministry. We couldn’t do it without you!

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Jenna Couch, Campus Pastor

Connections Shelter Fundraiser Update

The 2025 Connections Shelter was cancelled due to a lack of community team support. This was disappointing news to Team Bethlehem since we had already raised almost $2,500 for this major fundraiser.

However, there is still good news for Connections Shelter. They are planning a new fundraiser - A Midsummer Soiree - on June 20 at the Arboratem at Gustavus Adolphus College. See attached flyer for details. We have arranged with Connections to serve as the Entertainment Sponsor by providing $3,000. See attached sponsor flyer. We will be recognized with the musician group scheduled for the evening. What great PR for Bethlehem and our partnership with Connections!

We only need $557.48 to reach our $3,000 goal. Cash or check donations can be given to Bob Ihrig. Make checks payable to Connections Shelter. Contact Bob with questions about this new opportunity to support Connections!

Thank you

Dear Friends,

Your cards and heartfelt messages have been appreciated over these many weeks. The compression fracture in my spine has presented challenges. I will begin to have Evenity injections once a month to stimulate bone growth. We hope that medical treatment will make a real difference! Bob continues to be my support with much TLC. Thank you all!

The Blood Drive on May 8th in GFJ was a great success. 35 Units were collected and donors again enjoyed Eunice Sassenberg's delicious cookies after donating. BLC members Carol Malone, Holly Nevills and Mary Bliesmer volunteered their time and several other members donated blood. The next Blood Drive at BLC will be August 19th.

Rae Allan at Pathstone Living would like to Thank everyone who came to help celebrate her 100th Birthday.  Also a big Thank You for the many cards and gifts.  Blessings to you all.

Thank you

The end of Spring Term is here. We have always been thrilled to welcome students, friends, and volunteers to Crossroads, and we feel tremendously blessed to have Bethlehem Lutheran Church and your volunteers as partners in our ministry to feed students through our Lunch For-a-Buck program. On Tuesday, May 6th, faithful servants Jan Blaisdell, Kathy Piehl, and Sue Larsen prepared and served a delicious Finals Week lunch of beef and meatless lasagna, Italian bread, organic spring mix salad, and cookies to 38 hungry lunch-goers. They also collected $21.25 in donations that will be used to purchase the salad supplies, beverages, dinnerware, and other items for subsequent lunches in the fall.

Over the 2024-2025 school year, Lunch For-a-Buck was served on 30 Tuesdays by 54 unique volunteers from eight different congregations. They fed a total of 1,183 individuals and raised $1,172.92 in donations. Bethlehem's 16 volunteers prepared and/or served lunch on seven of those Tuesdays to 294 people while raising $325.97 in donations! God bless you for your generosity and for supporting the students and our ministry at Crossroads. Please know that we could not do what we do without your faithful support. We look forward to seeing you in the fall as we continue our work of feeding the bodies and souls of all who enter through our doors.

Have a blessed summer,

Crossroads Lutheran Campus Ministry
